Implement an Action that simply allows a POST to a custom API with some data payload
it seems important to make requests to external APIs in several situations during a Journey, from the very beginning to gather information from a contact, up to reporting thid party APIs hooked into the campaigns.
This has now been completed and is available in all accounts.
Here is the documentation on how to set it up: https://support.autopilothq.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042166872-Action-Webhook

what's the point in releasing this if you can't supply a payload? This is really bad design. Can you update it please?

Annual bump on this issue :-).
The lack of this feature may preclude us from using Autopilot.
Thanks!

Bumping this because it could be extremely useful

I need this too. I want to trigger other external stuff based on Autopilot triggers.

This would be very helpful. If combined with this :-
https://autopilothq.uservoice.com/forums/284270-autopilot-feedback-forum/suggestions/35760175-allow-setting-metadata-on-journey-steps-so-later-sIt would radically improve Autopilot's capabilities.
@Chris Sharkey, is there any update? It's been 3.5 years since you said it was high on the list of priorities.
Something like Node Red (auto passing JSON payloads down through nodes) would solve a lot of issues.
This suggestion, plus my one above and this one below would make a great combo, allowing data in and out, plus a way to pass it around, and would make sense to do together I think.

Same aswell, it's highly needed to be able to push out data in the workflow when there are actions missing that are critical to your business needs

Need this. Evaluating customer.io as well but like your system better (minus this missing feature).

Hi,
I'm waiting forward for this action. It would be great to have it and automate a lot on marketing :)

This is essential. We can't begin using your system until this is ready.

so you can kind of hack this with the notifcation email, and an email parser trigger on zapier, then a webhook action on zapier to whatever endpoint you want.
but agreed, a call webhook action in AP would be a better option.

Right now you have email and Slack as options, could be worth adding webhooks to trigger a larger amount of services.

FYI: A way to hack a post out for the time being is send notification to a zapier email parser email.

I am waiting with much anticipation for this feature to be released. Glad to know it will be part of the functionality. I would love as part of the ability to post out, the ability to include a a shortened tracked url. So I would like to post to a zapier webhook that then links to our current non twilio phone system which then smses out a link that is tracked and we know if they click it or not and it shows on contact profile. The same thing for direct mail in zapier.

Any update on the implementation of this idea? Posting the contact data to a web hook as part of a journey is something that would be key to my workflow - I just switched over from ActiveCampaign due to reliability issues, but am missing this key feature. Thanks guys!

Look forward to this one. For example, one issue with Recurly is you can't use more than 1 webhook. So if I use AutoPilot, I have to figure out a way to get the data from Recurly to my shipping vendor. Would love an Action to send that POST from Autopilot!

Hi Everyone,
This feature is very high on the roadmap of API features. The reason it is taking a little longer is that we want to give you the ability to configure associated settings panels for these custom actions to give clients options when using them.
I agree with you Andy that this is a killer feature that needs to be part of the core API.
I won't give an exact timeline but I would tell you that we are working hard on our API and this is high on the list of coming features.
Chris Sharkey.
