Add "today" date variable
A --today's date-- variable would useful. For my purposes, I would use it to populate a date field in Salesforce as contacts move through our sales funnel. SF reports then use that field to identify new, moving and stuck contacts in the funnel.
This is now available: http://autopilotdev.tumblr.com/post/155737566708/update-january-12-2016. Thanks to everyone for their feedback.
Please note that this release does not include the additional suggestion to allow operations such as today+3. I am seeding a new suggestion for that feature, so please add your votes and comments there: https://autopilothq.uservoice.com/forums/284270-autopilot-feedback-forum/suggestions/17713978-expand-today-functionality-to-allow-operations

This would be incredibly useful to have for onboarding processes that involve a trial of some sort. I'd also like to be able to put this variable into email messages. For example "Your free trial expires on --today+30--."

This would be incredibly useful especially when tracking lead status/time line. It would also be very helpful for timing contest email journeys.

would be great to have this; not only date but hour, minute as well (ie complete timestamp)

I would like to use it as a reminder for the customer for a special date: --today+8d-- in an order corfirmation to show the payment due date. It would be very useful

I'll add my vote for this. We had planned to offer our users a time-limited discount code (as a call to action), by embedding the current date into an embedded link in the email; the target web page would create a custom discount code for each user with an expiration date a few days into the future.

this would be a great feature as many of our campaigns rely on the last activity field (or another Salesforce formula field that takes into account Last Activity Date, Last Call Time and Last Email Sent).
This is important, because prior to sending out any campaigns, we typically suppress any contacts who have been emailed or called by one of our sales associates within the last 30 days. Having this field would be beneficial to Autopilot and it's users so that we can avoid sending emails to contacts who have recently had interaction with our business.

I took my vote away from the "add last activity date field" idea to this because I've realized that, with this feature, you would be able to update the salesforce record with the date that a lead took an action. We'd then be able to use the calculated field's feature in salesforce to create a "last activity date" field. Aditionally, that activity date would more accurately reflect when the lead was last active, since it could also include things like tasks and calls from salesforce when the date is caluclated. We can then use that field to trigger journeys in autopilot.
That would be a huge benefit in addition to the one's other people have mentioned, and it would kill 2 birds with one stone. Seems like a lot of benefit for relatively little effort.

Exactly - the ability to enter --today--, and also things like '--today+3--' or "--today+30--" would be really helpful.
