    From the docs it sounds like this was implemented by design to avoid inadvertently affecting journeys that are using the segment being edited. For example, if you change the criteria, any journeys would immediately respond to all new contacts who now meet the criteria of that segment which may have unintended consequences.

    Seems like a solution would be to display in the UI which Journeys are using the segment being edited, and give the user the ability to say "yes, please publish these changes and allow my journeys to trigger off any new contacts" (in not so many words maybe ;-). Or, simply give the option to pause/deactivate any journeys using that segment so then you can choose to go back in and re-activate manually if needed. Again, being very clear to the user about what's happening so you're not just pausing journeys in the background without letting the user know.
